Overview

Maras, Moray and Salineras Tour from 9am to 3pm in the city of Cusco, Peru. The tour starts at 9 in the morning and ends at 3 in the afternoon.

Trip to Maras: This picturesque colonial town, located 53 km northwest of Cusco by paved road (or 9 km from Urubamba on a motorable trail via Tarabamba and Pichingoto ), houses a church built in adobe that preserves canvases from the Cusco school. In colonial times, it was an important center of salt production in the southern mountains, with impressive mansions adorned with coats of arms of nobility. Some of these mansions keep fascinating secrets, such as the Argandoña family, known for their art in millinery, and the house of Jesusa Lucana, famous for its high-quality chicha de jora. Near Maras, in the Peasant Community of Pichingoto , are the famous salt mines, known locally as «salineras», exploited since pre-Hispanic times and especially recommended for photography. A paved trail (ideal for trekking and mountain biking) connects the salt mines with the towns of Tarabamba and Pichingoto , and extends several kilometers from Ollantaytambo over the sacred valley of Urubamba.

Trip to Moray: Located 9 km west of the town of Maras along a paved road, and approximately 62 km north of the city of Cusco, Moray is a unique archaeological complex composed of concentric agricultural terraces and a complex irrigation system. This place, also known as a prototype greenhouse or experimental station, is one of the most enigmatic in pre-Hispanic Cusco. It is believed that it functioned as an agricultural laboratory where the Incas experimented with different microclimates for the cultivation of various varieties of plants. Due to its archaeological interest and the beauty of its landscapes, Moray is a highly recommended excursion, although the access route can be complicated, especially after the rains. It is advisable to consult with a guide in Maras or find out about road conditions during the tour.

Trip to Salineras: The Maras salt mines consist of 300 wells that are filled with salt water emanating from a natural spring every 3 days. When water evaporates, salt crystals form, creating an impressive landscape unique to the region.

This tour offers a unique combination of history, culture and natural landscapes, being an unforgettable experience for visitors to Cusco.
