Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO - KM 104 - MACHU PICCHU

Our tour starts early, picking you up at 3:30 a.m. approximately, to transfer us from your hotel in Cusco to the bus station exclusively for train passengers. We will board the bus that will take us to Ollantaytambo train station, where we will take the 05:00 a.m. train. This trip will last about 90 minutes, allowing us to appreciate the Andean landscapes surrounding the Sacred Valley and a view of the Vilcanota River.

The geography of this area is impressive, ideal for nature lovers, who will find a diversity of plants, animals and insects in the different archaeological attractions and landscapes that have evolved over time.

At KM.104 (Chachabamba), we will cross a bridge that will take us to the ancient and magical Inca road network. Here, our guide will give us a brief explanation. After checking our tickets and passports for the entrance control, we will start trekking along the sacred Inca trail. We will climb up to the first archaeological center, enjoying the beautiful view of the archaeological center of Chachabamba and Choquesuysuy, a small archaeological group belonging to Machu Picchu, hidden in the semi-tropical forest.

After visiting this archaeological center, we will begin an ascent where we will find orchids, fungi, a variety of epiphytes (plants that grow on other plants) and lithophytes (plants that grow on rocks) due to the inter-Andean climate and the air vaporizations typical of the tropical forest. Continuing, we will have the first panoramic view of Wiñaywayna with beautiful viewpoints, passing by the great waterfall of Phuyuwachi, a natural water formation coming from the heights of Phuyupatamarka, where we will observe wild flora and native birds of the region. After approximately 4 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Wiñaywayna, at 2650 m.a.s.l. and 5 km southeast of Machu Picchu. This archaeological center, with a ceremonial and productive complex, presents Inca architecture and is the access control center to Machu Picchu. The name Wiñaywayna comes from an orchid abundant in the place.

After recharging our batteries, we will continue to the Intipunku, also known as the «Sun Gate». This gate marks the entrance to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Here you can enjoy the satisfaction of having completed the Inca Trail and take some time to rest and relax. You will admire the beauty of the site and explore the panoramic views of Machu Picchu and its surroundings from this privileged point.

Machu Picchu is a place full of mystery and charm. The first view from Intipunku is sure to be breathtaking, with the majesty of the mountains, the lush vegetation and the fascinating architecture of the citadel. Take the time to absorb all the beauty that surrounds you and enjoy this unique experience. Remember that Machu Picchu is an important and sacred archaeological site, so it is essential to treat it with respect and care.

After completing our Inca Trail, we will continue our descent to take the buses to Aguas Calientes. Once at your lodging in Aguas Calientes, you will be able to walk through its streets, visit restaurants or cafes and enjoy the thermal baths offered by this picturesque town. Do not forget to rest early to start our tour to the sanctuary of Machu Picchu the next day.
