The Mountain of Colors, also known as Vinicunca or Winikunka Mountain , is located about 100 kilometers southeast of Cusco, Peru. It is famous for its impressive landscapes and for being one of the highest mountains in the country, reaching a maximum altitude of 6,372 meters above sea level. It is located in the Andes mountain range, specifically in the Vilcanota mountain range.
This mountain has become popular among travelers and hikers seeking adventures such as the Ausangate Trek, which is a trekking route that includes the Colored Mountain as one of its main attractions. During the Ausangate Trek, travelers can enjoy impressive mountain landscapes, glaciers, luminous green and blue lagoons, as well as unique experiences in contact with nature and local culture.

Very early, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to begin our adventure to the southeast of the city. During the journey, we will enjoy impressive landscapes and pass through typical and picturesque towns that still preserve their ancestral customs, thus enriching our Inca cultural experience.
We will stop for lunch, where we will enjoy an outdoor snack, picnic style, taking advantage of the natural beauty that surrounds us. Continuing our tour, we will reach the town of Tinky, located 3850 meters above sea level. Here we will establish our camp and spend the night, preparing to continue our expedition the next day.
Very early, after enjoying a succulent breakfast, we will begin our walk through beautiful and picturesque landscapes, surrounded by llamas, alpacas and sheep, breathing the fresh mountain air.
Our walk will take us to UPIS, located 4400 meters above sea level, where we will arrive at approximately noon. Here we will stop for lunch, replenishing our energy while enjoying the impressive views that this place offers us.
After lunch, we will have the opportunity to relax in the thermomedicinal baths of the Upis community, known for their hot waters. It is the perfect time to rest our muscles and enjoy this natural oasis in the middle of the mountains.
After enjoying the baths, we will return to the camp for dinner and spend the night there, preparing for the exciting adventures that await us in the following days
After a very early breakfast, we will begin our walk, preparing for a challenging but exciting day. The path will take us through impressive and varied landscapes, where we can observe the characteristic flora and fauna of the area.
Our first objective will be to reach the first pass known as Arapa, located 4800 meters above sea level. From this point, we will enjoy spectacular views of the mountain range and the various shades of colors that the region’s vegetation offers.
We will continue descending until we reach Yanacocha, also known as Laguna Negra, at an altitude of 4500 meters above sea level. Here we will stop for lunch, surrounded by an impressive panoramic view that will leave us breathless.
After replenishing our energy, we will begin the ascent to the highest point of our route, the Ausangate Extreme Pass, at 4850 meters above sea level. This will be an exciting moment, where we can feel the magnitude of the high Andean nature and contemplate all its beauty in a majestic environment.
Satisfied with the experience and the views that nature offers us, we will begin the descent towards the edge of Ausangate Lagoon, located 4650 meters above sea level. Here we will have our dinner and camp, enjoying the serenity and grandeur of this unique place.
This day will undoubtedly be unforgettable, full of challenges and natural rewards that will connect us deeply with the high Andean environment. I’m here to move forward with the narrative or adjust it to your preferences.
After an early breakfast at sunrise, with a stunning view of the sun rising over the landscape, we will begin our hike towards an even more exciting day. If the day before we felt like we were touching the sky with our hands, today we will experience the feeling of being in the sky itself as we ascend to the Palomani Pass, the highest point of our trek at 5,200 meters above sea level.
From Palomani Pass, we will witness a spectacular and unique view. The natural colors of the landscape will unfold before us, with lagoons shining in the distance in the light of the morning sun and the imposing snow-capped Ausangate showing itself in all its majesty. This experience will surely leave us breathless and fill us with emotion as we feel in such a high and privileged place.
After enjoying this unforgettable panorama, we will begin the descent, feeling the dry cold of the heights, until we reach a valley where we will have our lunch. Then, we will continue ascending towards our camp in Jampa, located 4700 meters above sea level. Here, we will enjoy a comforting dinner and spend the night, surrounded by the serenity and beauty of the Andean heights.
This day will be a memorable chapter in our trip, filled with amazing views and the feeling of being in direct connection with nature in its most awe-inspiring and sublime form.
After a very early breakfast, we will begin our hike ascending to Paso Campa, which is located at an altitude of 5100 meters above sea level. From this point, we will begin a descent towards the thermomedicinal baths of Pachanta, located 4350 meters above sea level. Here we will make a stop to relax and enjoy the benefits of the hot springs. After our time in the baths, we will continue our hike and have lunch along the way.
Then, we will continue walking until we reach Tinki, where we will establish our last camp of this trekking. Here we will enjoy a comforting dinner and spend the night.
After a succulent breakfast as usual, we will begin our return by bus to Cusco. During the journey, we will be able to see crop fields and rustic towns with thatched roofs, which reflect daily life in this region of the Peruvian Andes.
We will make one last stop for lunch, and if you wish, we could stop in Tipón to try cuy (wild rabbit) or in Saylla to enjoy pork chicharrones, two typical dishes of Peruvian cuisine.
This will be the end of our services, concluding an exciting and memorable trek through the heights of Ausangate, full of impressive landscapes, cultural experiences and moments of connection with nature and the history of the Andes.
