Overview

The alternative tour known as Inca Jungle Trail is considered one of the most beautiful and complete to reach the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. This itinerary is flexible and allows the practice of adventure sports along the way, in addition to being a less explored route to the Inca city.

The first day of the tour consists of a downhill bike ride for approximately 4 hours. There is also the option of choosing the boat descent. On the second day, the Inca Jungle Trek to Machu Picchu lasts approximately 7 hours. During this journey, travelers can see remains of the original Inca trail and have the opportunity to do activities such as canopy and visit the Cocalmayo thermal baths before arriving at Machu Picchu.

This tour combines the excitement of outdoor activities with the fascinating experience of discovering Machu Picchu through a different and less traveled path.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Cusco – Inka Jungle Trail – Abra Málaga – Santa María – Inca Trail

You will be picked up from the hotel at 7:30 am and we will travel by private tourist bus for 3 hours until we reach Abra Málaga, located 4300 meters above sea level. We will make a brief stop to enjoy the landscape before beginning our Down Hill bicycle descent, which will take approximately 3 hours (part of the Inka Jungle Trail).

During the journey, we will pass through the small archaeological complex of Huamanmarca and experience the change in climate towards the edge of the jungle. We will have the opportunity to observe plantations of coca, coffee and exotic fruits such as mango, pineapple and papaya, from which you can collect and enjoy their natural flavor. We will arrive at Santa María, a small town where we will spend the night in a basic hostel.

After breakfast, we prepare to walk for a day that, although long, is very rewarding. We will find sections of the original Inca trail and enjoy views of waterfalls and abundant flora and fauna. Near sunset, we will visit the natural thermal baths of Cocalmayo, where you can relax while enjoying an energy drink such as Cuzco beer. Dinner and accommodation will be in Santa Teresa, a small tourist town known for its thermal baths and the unique hospitality of its people.

After a very early breakfast and the guide’s instructions, we begin our walk that will last approximately 2 hours until we reach Hidroeléctrica. From this point, there is the option of taking a train to Aguas Calientes (town of Machu Picchu) with an additional cost. However, we will continue walking through the Inka Jungle towards Machu Picchu for about 3 more hours until we reach Aguas Calientes.

During the journey, we will be able to observe a variety of insects and we will walk along the banks of the river, enjoying an impressive landscape with distant views of the Putucusi and San Miguel mountains. Finally, we will arrive at the town of Aguas Calientes at night, where we will enjoy dinner during which our guide will inform us in detail about our tour in Machu Picchu. We will spend the night in a basic hotel with a private bathroom and hot water.

This day we will get up very early and begin the walk to Machu Picchu at 4:30 am, which will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. We will be arriving at Machu Picchu around 6 am. Once there, we will enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of the main sectors of Machu Picchu. There is the possibility of visiting Waynapicchu, but tickets must be reserved in advance.

After the guided tour, you will have free time until approximately 4:30 pm, when the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu closes its doors. At the time indicated by our guide, we will take the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, we will transfer by bus back to Cusco, a trip that will take approximately 4 hours.

This concludes our service with Tours Peru Machu Picchu.
