Also known as the Mountain of Seven Colors, Pallay Punchu de Apu T’acllo or Condor Sayana, it is one of the new tourist destinations in Cusco discovered during the quarantine. It is located more than 194 kilometers and three hours from the city of Cusco, located on a summit elevated to 4,791 meters above sea level. This geological mountain formation is colored in various shades due to the complex combination of minerals. The slopes and summit stand out in colors including red, pink, purple, green, pink, white and others.
Very early we will stop by your hotel to pick you up and begin our trip to the town of Cusipata, a journey that will take approximately two hours. There we will enjoy a nutritious breakfast before continuing to Sicuani and then to the Layo district, where Pallay Mountain is located.
In Layo we will make a brief stop to explore the town and learn about its local customs. Then, our vehicle will ascend for about 30 minutes to the base of the mountain. From there, we will begin a walk of approximately two and a half hours to reach the impressive Pallay Punchu Mountain, known for its vibrant colors that are the result of a complex combination of minerals, marine, lacustrine and river sediments.
Throughout geological history, these sediments have been stratified due to the collision of tectonic plates in the area. Mineral layers of different lengths have risen over time to form the majestic mountains we can admire today. The oxidation of these minerals, combined with humidity and erosion, has contributed to the formation of the spectacular colors that adorn Pallay Punchu Mountain.
The weather in the mountains varies significantly throughout the day: in the mornings it is cool with winds, while at midday it usually becomes drier and sunny, offering different perspectives of the landscape.
During the trip, you will have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful natural landscapes and observe local fauna. Furthermore, near the Pallay Punchu Mountain is the charming Langui Lagoon, which adds even more beauty to the environment and makes this destination a very attractive experience.
After the visit, we will descend to enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants in Layo, where you can taste a varied cuisine based on trout and alpaca, typical products of the region.
Finally, we will return to the city of Cusco, arriving approximately around 6 pm, thus concluding our memorable trip to Pallay Punchu Mountain.
