Archaeologists believe that the Huchuy Qosqo archaeological site was built during the reign of the eighth Inca ruler, Wiracocha . Inca rulers acquired large royal estates to increase their power and wealth, and these estates were inherited by their descendants. Royal estates also served as elegant country palaces and sometimes as fortresses to defend against rivals for power. Thus, the name Huchuy Qosqo, meaning «Little Cusco,» refers to a royal hacienda or government center modeled on the Inca capital. Your guide will tell you all about the historical significance of this beautiful site.
